- I'm a big David Cronenberg fan, and purchased A History of Violence on DVD some time ago (after enjoying the film in the theatre). I watched it the other night, and enjoyed it just as much. I was able to pay more attention to details, like the shifting accents. Definitely Cronenberg's most mainstream and accessible film, but it's still got the threads of metamorphosis and identity and non-glamourised violence that make him an interesting director.
- We went to the theatre last night to see The Departed. We had to drive to Chelsea for this: the UK run of this movie seemed to happen really quickly and it's only showing in one or two theatres in London now. It was worth the drive. I'm also a big Martin Scorcese fan, although I was not that impressed by either The Aviator or Gangs of New York. But The Departed, being based (script-wise, at least) on Infernal Affairs, was excellent: gritty, fast-moving, intriguing, suspenseful and well-acted. I can't believe I enjoyed the acting of both Leonardo DiCaprio and Matt Damon, but I did. I guess they're finally getting it.
